The Niagara University community convened Friday morning for the first-ever Senior Celebration, which was held in the Gallagher Center gymnasium.

The 90-minute program was developed by the Senior Class Delegation as a way to bring the soon-to-be graduates together for an informal celebratory event in front of university faculty, staff and administrators prior to graduation.

Seniors entered the Gallagher Center to the applause of university employees, before being treated to a ride on the “NU roller coaster,” courtesy of Chili Center native Brian Traugott. The event also included a musical performance by Peter Heuer (Niagara Falls, N.Y.), a light-hearted video created by Jordan Hernandez (of Hilton, N.Y.), the singing of the American and Canadian national anthems by Ashley Scofield (Leroy, N.Y.), a prize raffle and remarks from:

  • Bill Newton, Assistant Director of Campus Activities
  • Tavon Rowe (Harlem, N.Y.)
  • Rev. Kevin Creagh, C.M., Associate Vice President of Campus Ministry,
  • Chris Zukas (Raleigh, N.C.), President of NUSGA
  • Matt Carrozzo (Manhasset, N.Y.), Senior Class President
  • Dr. Tim Ireland, Chair of NU’s Criminal Justice Department
  • Dr. Tim Downs, Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Dr. Kevin Hearn, Vice President for Student Affairs
  • Members of the Senior Class Delegation

The Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., Niagara University president, concluded the event with a blessing and the presentation of the prestigious Niagara Medal to Andrew Siedlecki, a Lewiston resident who will graduate tomorrow with a degree in biology.

Here’s the video produced by senior Jordan Hernandez and featuring senior class advisor Dr. Alex Bertland.
