Darcy Unruh Receives Award from National Association of Social Workers

Niagara University alumna Darcy Unruh was recently honored by the National Association of Social Workers New York State Chapter. Unruh accepted the organization’s Student of the Year Award on March 21, 2013.

Unruh has demonstrated her dedication to the social work profession through her volunteering, leadership and academic skills. She has volunteered in several organizations throughout St. Catharines, Ontario, such as the Niagara Suicide Prevention Coalition, the Out of the Cold Shelter and the Niagara Region Sexual Assault, as well as the Niagara County Coalition of Care in Niagara Falls, N.Y.

Along with her volunteer work within her community, Unruh has also traveled with the Multicultural Exchange program to Ghana, Africa, and participated in the Urban Plunge in Philadelphia.

Unruh has not only succeeded with her volunteer work, she has strived in leadership as a member of the Niagara University academic integrity board, the social work department’s advisory board and with the youth subcommittee of the Niagara Suicide Prevention Coalition.

Unruh graduated from Niagara University in May 2013 with honors with distinction. She was accepted for admission to the University at Buffalo, where she is pursuing her master’s in social work.
