The Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., became Niagara University’s 26th president today, the first of August. Among his first orders of business was to invite all members of the campus community to join him for afternoon Mass, which he celebrated with the assistance of the Rev. Joseph Hubbert, C.M.

Father Maher’s message to the 50 or so Mass attendees focused on always remembering God’s presence, and using Him as a guide in our daily lives.

Father Maher, previously the executive vice president for mission and student services at St. John’s University, succeeds the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., who stepped away after 13 years as president of NU. On July 10, Father Levesque accepted an assignment to serve as interim president of St. John’s University while the institution searches for a successor to the Rev. Donald Harrington, C.M.
