The Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., president of Niagara University from 2000 to 2013, will be honored during Immaculata Academy’s 21st Annual Mater Christi Awards Gala on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Michael’s Banquet Facility in Hamburg.

Father Levesque will be presented with the institution’s Mater Christi Award in recognition of his strong commitment to Catholic education.

Under Father Levesque’s leadership, and his understanding of the economic impact that institutions of higher education have on their communities, Niagara University has experienced a process of transformation that has significantly developed the physical character of the university’s campus and its 21st century approach to teaching and learning.

Father Levesque stepped away from the Niagara University President’s Office on Aug. 1, 2013, and began a new role as interim president of St. John’s University in Queens, N.Y.

Since 1993, Immaculata Academy has honored those who serve their community as instruments of positive change. Also being honored at this year’s gala are Deacon Mark and Linda Hooper, and Elisa M. Rodriguez, Ph.D.
