NU Theatre Presents Free Children’s Stories This Summer

July 1, 2013  |  by Michael Freedman

This summer, NU Theatre’s 37-year tradition of entertaining children and families with its N.U.R.T. storytelling troupe continues!

Here comes Lily with her purple plastic purse! And Alexander, as usual, is having a “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day…” and Pierre just doesn’t care! Yes, Niagara University Repertory Theatre (N.U.R.T.) is back and better than ever. Our fast, furious and fantastically funny children’s tales brought to life by trained actors will delight audiences of all ages.

N.U.R.T., will present a rotating repertoire of free children’s stories outdoors in the Village of Lewiston at Artpark during its Free Family Saturdays in July. N.U.R.T. will perform near in the park’s upper level sandbox area on the following Saturdays at 1 and 3 p.m.:  July 6, 20 and 27. Also, N.U.R.T. will present a 2 p.m. show on Saturday, July 13 at Artpark. Reservations are not required.

The N.U.R.T. troupe will also perform every Thursday at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. from July 18 through August 22 in the air-conditioned comfort of the Leary Theatre within the Elizabeth Ann Clune Center, Clet Hall, on the NU campus. On Thursday, July 11, N.U.R.T. will present only one show at 10 a.m. at the Leary Theatre. Reservations are not required.

Amanda Lytle Sharpe, adjunct theater professor and N.U.R.T. director said, “Our free children’s theatre performances will include about 40 minutes of children’s stories in rotation. The production is fun for the whole family, but is especially appropriate for children ages 3-12 and we ask that children are always accompanied by an adult.”

Cast members of the troupe include the following theatre performance students from New York state, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Connecticut: Matt Gilbert, MacKenzie Gildemeyer, Anna Krempholtz, Josephine Lazusky, Amy Mings, Jean O’Harrow, Preston Williams, Phoebe Wright and Jessica Yagoda.
