NU Theatre Production Captures Award for Best Musical of 2016, Zschiegner Named Best Director

Niagara University Theatre’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone was named the Best Musical of 2016 by BroadwayWorld Buffalo, according to results released Jan. 6.

In addition, the show’s director, Doug Zschiegner, associate director of NU Theatre, was selected for Best Director in a Musical.

The Drowsy Chaperone was onstage at NU April 21-May 1.

Karen Grace Harty, a 2016 Niagara University graduate, took home the award for Best Actress in a Musical (topping three fellow NU alumnae) for her portrayal of The Duchess of Berwick in the NU Theatre production of Lady Windermere’s Fan (March 31-April 4).

Several other Niagara University students and alumni were nominated for awards by BroadwayWorld Buffalo, a website dedicated to coverage of Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional and international theatre.

Niagara University was one of only two colleges included among the professional community in the polling.
