Sustainable Sandals Project — Aug. 23, 2013

As part of its weeklong community advisor training, Niagara University’s Office of Residence Life organized, sanitized and packaged gently-used sandals, which will soon be distributed to needy individuals across the globe. The service initiative was undertaken on day two of CA training, as NU students are set to return to campus this weekend, with classes starting Sept. 3. “Our theme this year is ‘Do More,’” stated Josh Coyne, ’10, residence director. “We are working with offices all across campus to get our student-leaders ready for what will be an excellent year in the residence halls!” For several years, Niagara University has collected and repackaged footwear from the Cave of the Winds attraction in Niagara Falls as part of its Sustainable Sandals Project. The operation is currently coordinated through the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., Institute for Civic Engagement, a university resource dedicated to serving the less fortunate.
