On May 1, 2012, actress Christine Estabrook presented a forum about her career experiences in television, theater and film for Niagara University theatre studies students in the Leary Theatre at NU. The hour-long program was open to all NU students, faculty and staff and the Friends of Niagara University Theatre.
Estabrook, a native of East Aurora, N.Y., has built an impressive portfolio of roles on stage and in front of the camera. Most recently, she was featured on the television programs Mad Men and American Horror Story. She also played the role of the widowed, nosy neighbor Martha Huber on Desperate Housewives and has guest-starred on Six Feet Under, 7th Heaven, Dharma and Greg, The Guardian, Veronica Mars, NYPD Blue, and Ghost Whisperer.
A few of her movies include Second Sight, Sea of Love, Grind, Spider-Man 2, Catch that Kid, and Presumed Innocent.
Estabrook attended the Yale School of Drama in the 1970s with Meryl Streep and playwrights Wendy Wasserstein and Christopher Durang. She graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1973.
She appeared on Broadway in The Inspector General, The Cherry Orchard, The Sisters Rosensweig, The Heidi Chronicles, I’m Not Rappaport, and Spring Awakening.
Off-Broadway, she appeared in Ladyhouse Blues, Pastorale, and Baby with the Bathwater. She received Drama Desk Awards for her roles in Pastorale and The Boys Next Door, and a Drama Desk Award nomination for her role in North Shore Fish. Estabrook has also worked in numerous regional theater productions and for the Eugene O’Neill Playwrights’ Conference.
