Joe Tevlin, '20, recently returned back to Niagara University to pursue his graduate degree in finance. We recently caught up with Joe to discover how his life has changed since becoming a Purple Eagle.
Q: What drew you back to Niagara?
My first four years at Niagara University were the best of my life, so of course I could not resist the opportunity to return to such a wonderful community.
Q: Why do you love math?
Math is an art, so it makes sense that my favorite part of it is the creativity involved with solving a problem or proving a theorem. I love having the freedom of approaching each math question with a unique angle, while being encouraged to use original thoughts in the process.
Q: What is your plan after graduation from the M.S. Finance program at NU?
My hope is to take the analytical skills that I learned during my math degree, combine them with some formal training in finance, and break into the private equity world. This might require some experience in investment banking or some other hands-on work in the finance industry, but my mind is flexible and I can't wait to get started!
Q: What do you like to do outside of school?
Playing baseball for NU has been a great way to round myself off as a person. I feel that my experiences in both academics and athletics have prepared me for any challenges that are waiting for me in life.
