During this past spring semester, Beta Alpha Psi honor society held its third annual bbq fundraiser as an opportunity to support the surrounding community.
Beta Alpha Psi, founded in 1919, is an honor organization for accounting, finance and information systems students and professionals. Niagara’s Lambda Chi chapter was established in 2006 and follows the organization mission of providing opportunities for service, professional development, and interaction among members and financial professionals in addition to fostering lifelong ethical, social, and public responsibilities.
The purpose of this particular fundraiser was to support local youth by providing funds for summer camp. Beta Alpha Psi members raised funds from the sale of ribs, cornbread, and coleslaw. Students volunteered their time towards the fundraiser including buying, preparing and selling the food under the guidance of former Beta Alpha Psi President Rodney Walker and the assistance of Metz Catering.
In July, Beta Alpha Psi officers and moderator Dr. Hai Ta, assistant professor of accounting, were able to present to the United Way of Greater Niagara a check for $1500 for local youths to attend summer camp.
