Dr. Carolyn Shivers with "Jeopardy" host Ken Jennings

Dr. Carolyn Shivers, associate professor of psychology at Niagara University, came in second during the Feb. 7, 2023, edition of the game show “Jeopardy,” hosted by Ken Jennings.

After leading at the end of the first round, she entered Final Jeopardy in third place, behind Matthew Marcus, a software developer from Portland, Ore., and Greg Snyder, a call center manager from Las Vegas. She correctly answered the final question, but ended up in second place behind three-time champion Marcus, who also answered correctly.

Dr. Shivers, who noted that she had been taking the “Jeopardy” online tests since she was an undergraduate student at the University of Notre Dame, said her experience as a professor helped her prepare for her time on the show, because answering questions is part of the job. She also credits the fact that she is a classically trained soprano with her ability to speak clearly and loudly when answering questions.

“It was so much fun!” Dr. Shivers said of her time on the show. “It was a dream come true, it was such a blast!”
