
Dr. John Sauter, associate dean for advising and administration in Niagara University's College of Arts & Sciences, gave the opening keynote address for the NACADA Region 1 & 2 conference, April 1-3 in Buffalo, N.Y. He spoke on “Art in Advising: Creativity and Innovation in our Profession.”
Dr. Sauter also participated in several other conference sessions, including a follow-up conversation to his introductory presentation. He also discussed “Building a Socially Just Profession Through Unstructured Conversations” and “Leveling Up Advisor Engagement with Social Justice: Technology, Social Media and Inclusion,” and was on a panel of advisors, advising administrators, and other academic affairs professionals with more than two decades of experience.
He currently serves in NACADA’s administrative division and has served in multiple leadership and mentorship roles across the organization.
Dr. Sauter joined Niagara University in 2001. He holds a B.A. in history from Colby College, an M.S.Ed. in higher education and student affairs from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in higher education administration from the University at Buffalo.
NACADA promotes and supports quality academic advising in institutions of higher education to enhance the educational development of students and provides a forum for discussion, debate, and the exchange of ideas pertaining to academic advising through numerous activities and publications.
