Dr. Shannon Hodges, professor of clinical mental health counseling at Niagara University, recently published a book that draws on his more than 20 years of experience counseling in community agencies, university counseling centers, and residential living communities.
“The Professional Counselor: Challenges and Opportunities” weaves a rich narrative for the inner counselor of self-discovery, mindfulness and self-care, emotional intelligence, counselor identity, ethical issues, career maturation, and future trends in counseling.
The book addresses topics including enrollment in the counselor profession, ethical issues, client treatment, accreditation, occupational outlook, and the ways technology will transform professional practice. Dr. Hodges uses his personal and professional experiences to address relevant professional issues in mindfulness-based treatment at the end of each chapter.
