This appointment will further enhance collaboration between Niagara and Lixin. Niagara and Lixin entered into an academic cooperation agreement in January 2015 to facilitate faculty and student exchange opportunities between the institutions.
As part of the agreement, Dr. Lee taught a course in Shanghai during his sabbatical last spring. He was asked by Lixin administrators to apply for the Distinguished Overseas Professors program, and was recently approved for the program by the Education Committee of Shanghai City government.
Dr. Lee visited Lixin in December 2015 to begin fulfilling his obligations as a Distinguished Overseas Professor.
“On behalf of Niagara University, I wish to congratulate Dr. Lee on this well-deserved recognition,” stated Dr. Timothy Downs, provost. “Dr. Lee, for several years, has been a catalyst in helping us to internationalize the NU campus and is one of our driving forces behind the university’s ability to expand its footprint globally.”
The Distinguished Overseas Professors program, established in 2011, is meant to enhance the student learning experience by hiring accomplished professors from abroad to conduct research and teach in Shanghai’s higher education institutions.
To become a Distinguished Overseas Professor, the professor must demonstrate that he or she has published significantly in the field, held a key position in a higher education institution or an academic organization, earned major fellowships or grants, and/or has placed significant impacts in the field, among other requirements.
Dr. Lee earned his Ph.D. in economics from Iowa State University. He was a Fulbright Scholar to Taiwan in 2001 and a Fulbright Senior Specialist from 2002 to 2009. In addition to business statistics, he has taught supply chain management at the undergraduate and graduate levels in recent years. He also developed a study abroad program to Asia that includes China, Taiwan and Japan.
Dr. Lee’s research is focused on the impact of globalization on the economy. He has served as editor of the International Journal of Intellectual Property Management.
