A research paper co-authored by a Niagara University student and associate professor was awarded second place during the 2017 Korea America Hospitality and Tourism Educators Association Conference, which was held April 21-22 in Las Vegas.
Co-authored by Faith Moenich, an NU senior studying hotel and restaurant management, and Dr. Chang Huh, a faculty member in NU’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, the paper, Factors that Influence Private Club Members to Remain Loyal, won second place in the Undergraduate Student Research Forum.
It investigated underlying factors that can persuade private club members to maintain their membership. The findings of the study can benefit private club managers and membership directors to modify their services or facilities to retain their members. Not only does this study investigate ways private clubs can improve their retention rates, but it also examines what internal and external factors cause private club membership to increase.
A total of six university presenters competed for the USRF award, including students from Michigan State University, Arkansas Tech University, Institute for Tourism Studies at Macao, California State University East Bay, Wilkes University, and Niagara University.
Participants in this year’s conference included researchers from the United States, China, and South Korea.
Founded in 2011, the Korea America Hospitality and Tourism Educators Association fosters academic and professional collaboration and networking between hospitality educators and industry professionals in Korea and the United States.
Dr. Huh serves as president of KAHTEA.
