Approximately 30 members of the Niagara University community took part in a discussion of intersectionality on Nov. 20, 2020, led by members of the student committee of the Identifying and Dismantling Racial Injustice Task Force.

Lawson Castaldo, Kacey Crast, Megan Held, Nefantee Mayers, Kiara Santiago, and Avante Walker prompted comments and reflections from students, staff, faculty, and administrators in response to several questions around the topic. Participants considered the definition of intersectionality, the specific identities they felt defined them, how perception affects identity, and why acknowledgement of intersectionality is important.

The discussion, which took place via Zoom, is part of ongoing training sessions for the Niagara campus community, as recommended by the IDRI task force.
