Niagara Falls High School Early College seniors learned more about NUOP during a field trip to Niagara University on Nov. 16, hosted by the Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement.

The Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement hosted Niagara Falls High School Early College seniors on Nov. 16, 2023, for an on-campus field trip that highlighted some of the opportunities available at Niagara University and gave the students a glimpse of college life.

The students heard from Anthony Rizzo, assistant director of Student Accounts, Tia Jackson, NUOP program director, and NUOP students Vote Wavote and Shirha Clemons. They also talked with a diverse group of NU students, including Brennan Scholars, Levesque Institute work-study students, NUOP participants, and criminal justice and business majors, during table talk discussions on topics such as student housing, choosing a major, coursework, campus activities, and meal plans. These student-to-student conversations help to increase the high school students’ comfort with their peers and ease tension about their transition to college. Niagara University students earn service-learning hours for participating in campus visits like these.

The Early College seniors will return to campus with their parents on Dec. 12 for a college readiness-themed workshop that will provide families with essential information about the college application process, the academic programs offered at Niagara, financing a college education, and completing the new FAFSA application.
