Professor Joe Winter and several Niagara University accounting students participated in an open house held June 6 by Brock Schechter & Polakoff LLP.

Even though the spring semester ended just a few weeks ago, 12 rising NU junior and senior accounting majors are squarely focused on their opportunities for future employment and took advantage of learning about the wonderful prospects available at a local Buffalo CPA firm.

Brock Schechter & Polakoff LLP held an open house June 6 in its offices in the Larkin Building in downtown Buffalo. Students and faculty members from NU, along with some other local colleges and universities were able to receive an understanding of the philosophy, culture and teamwork approach BS&P undertakes to offer a complete suite of services to their clients.

Students were able to mingle while receiving valuable advice from the nine partners and approximately 50 employees of the firm. They also obtained a strong understanding of the firm’s industry expertise, which includes automobile dealerships, medical practices, manufacturing and oil and gas producers. In addition to audit, assurance and outsourced accounting services, students’ interests were piqued with the firm’s background in international tax and service organization control engagements.

Chris Miller, ’19, had a tax internship at BS&P during the spring semester of 2018 and remarked about the opportunity he had to work in a great office environment, with cutting-edge technology and proactive people. Miller utilized his NU education in a very practical manner to support the efforts of the firm during its peak business cycle.

Assistant professor of accounting Joseph Winter attended the open house with the students. He stressed to students the importance of seizing an opportunity to learn more about firms whenever opportunities arise, since they will soon be interviewing for internships and job placements.

To conclude the open house, BS&P treated attendees to a private party at the Filling Station at Larkinville.
