Niagara University graduate Gillian Moore was named the 2018 Lincoln County Schools (North Carolina) Teacher of the Year.
Moore, who earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary math education from NU in 2006, teaches ninth grade math at North Lincoln High School in Lincolnton, N.C.
Teachers of the year nominations are submitted by parents, students and community members, and then chosen by the school and district.
“Even the kids were excited that I won,” Moore told the Lincoln Times-News. “It was crazy when they found out. I had some make me cards. It’s those things that make me realize I’ve made an impact. Just like any teacher, when you’re in your room or on these committees you don’t realize the difference you make until you get the chance to step back and say holy cow, I did it.”
