
Lisa Hillyard, a school psychologist at Cleveland Hill Union Free School District in Cheektowaga, N.Y., received Niagara University’s inaugural Mentor of Distinction Award. This prestigious new award, presented by the university’s College of Education, recognizes school psychology practicum and internship supervisors who have made a profound and lasting impact on the college’s school psychology program through exceptional mentorship, dedication, and unwavering support of graduate students.
Hillyard was honored for her remarkable contributions to the field of school psychology and her tireless dedication to guiding the next generation of professionals. She received the award during a special ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024.
“Lisa has served as a school psychology practicum supervisor for many years, shaping the professional growth and confidence of countless school psychology students at Niagara University,” said Dr. Gary E. Schaffer, assistant professor of school psychology. “Her commitment to school psychology, passion for mentoring, and outstanding leadership have left an indelible mark not only on her mentees, but also on the broader program. Lisa exemplifies the qualities of a dedicated mentor, making her an exemplary choice for this recognition.”
