Niagara University is the only institution of higher education from Western New York to appear on College Choice’s rankings of the “50 Best Colleges for Veterans in 2017.”

The College Choice rankings are based on composite scores in institutional excellence, student satisfaction and return on investment. The data comes from university websites, PayScale, U.S. News & World Report, and the National Center for Education Statistics.

In its description of Niagara University, College Choice noted that “veterans from Niagara have won a number of highly prestigious accolades, including two Medals of Honor and a nomination for sainthood. Niagara has a private veterans lounge, which serves both as a relaxation spot for student veterans as well as a place of bonding and camaraderie. There is a Student Veterans Organization on campus, which helps to connect new and current student veterans, and seeks to help new students get their bearings at Niagara.”

The recognition from College Choice, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources, is the latest acknowledgment of NU’s remarkable efforts to support military students, veterans and their families. Victory Media included Niagara among the country’s top 10 small private schools for American military veterans and their families in 2017, and U.S. News & World Report annually ranks the Catholic and Vincentian institution among its “Best Colleges for Veterans.”

“All of us at Niagara take great pride in supporting the brave men and women who have sacrificed so much to protect our freedoms,” said Robert Healy, director of veterans services at Niagara University, which offers a U.S. Army ROTC program, and participates in the Department of Veterans Affairs GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
