The Niagara University Lions Club received its official charter from the Lions Club International during an event held April 28, 2017, at the Brickyard Pub & BBQ in Lewiston, N.Y.

The NU Lions Club, which was approved by the Office of Campus Activities in November 2015 as a new club on campus, was sponsored by the Lewiston Community Lions Club. By December 2016, the club reached its goal of 20 members and became an official campus club charter.

Officers in 2016-2017 who helped start the club were Molly Smarr (president), Phoebe Caradori (vice president), Neil Luckman (treasurer), and Maegan Zeller (secretary). Incoming officers for 2017-2018 are Elizabeth Marohn (president), Ashley Groll (vice president), Joy O’Brien (treasurer), and Emily Magyar (secretary). The club advisor is Sharon Green, coordinator of instructional services in Niagara University’s Office of Academic Support.

The NU Lions Club is a campus affiliate of Lions Club International, the world’s largest service organization. Its mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace, and promote international understanding.
