Niagara University has a long tradition of educating international students. Located in Lewiston, N.Y., on the border of Canada, Niagara operates as a bi-national institution, welcoming students from around the globe to study in one of the four colleges at the university.
Last month, Business First of Buffalo released its college rankings, and in addition to being the largest independent, Catholic college or university in the Buffalo-Niagara region, it is also the largest private institution in terms of international students in the region, and the second largest overall in this area.
This year, Niagara University has students studying from 38 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Turkey, China, and South Korea, to name just a few. The international student base on campus adds to the living-learning environment, and brings a global perspective to the Niagara University experience.
However, the benefits of the international student population go beyond the campus and the classroom. The international students at Niagara University have an economic impact of $14 million, supporting 88 jobs in the Western New York community, according to the NAFSA Association of International Educators.
