Niagara University’s online master’s degree program in special education was again ranked among the top 50 in the nation, according to Online Schools Report. At number 14, Niagara was the only Western New York institution included on the list, and the only one located in New York state.
“We are happy to be named one of the best for the third year running,” said Dr. Chandra Foote, dean of the Niagara University College of Education. “It is a testament to our ability to engage graduate candidates in meaningful online learning, despite their very busy professional lives.”
OSR’s ranking of the "Best Online Master's Degrees in Special Education" is based on six data points--three that focus on the quality of the school, and three that focus on the quality of the individual program--to prioritize the school's ability to deliver an online education comparable to an on-campus degree. The school-wide criteria are student satisfaction, admission rates, and the total number of programs the school offers online. In terms of program-specific data points, OSR looks at median debt of program graduates, how many degrees are offered within the program’s department, and the percentage of enrolled students who graduate from that department.
In addition to its online master’s degree programs in special education, grades 1-6 or grades 7-12, Niagara University recently added an online master’s degree program in early childhood/early childhood special education (birth through grade 2) that leads to initial certification.
