The Niagara University English department recently honored 14 students during a Zoom ceremony on April 26.

Olivia DeGregorio, Alyssa DiaPaul, Alyssa Garmone, Caterina Grande, Audrey Grout, Katelin Hartling, Jamie Haskell, Susan Leone, Hanna Linsky, and Anna Moczarski were inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. This year marks the 30th anniversary of NU’s local chapter.

Department awards were also given to recognize five students who have achieved a high level of academic success in the English major program.

Samantha DiFonzo, a double major in English and philosophy, and Audrey Grout, an English and theatre performance major, shared the honor of being the top senior in the English major as co-recipients of the 2021 Devine Award for Excellence.

Catherine Wagner, an English education 5-12 major with a minor in literacy, Erin Maker, a 7-12 secondary English education major with a minor in literacy, and Kailey Kostyo, an English major with minors in philosophy and business, were honored with the 2021 Eugene Blair Award, which recognizes English/education students or other top English majors.

“Although this year’s event looks quite different from those in past years, we are pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate our students and to recognize their hard work, especially during this very challenging year,” said Dr. Jamie Carr, chair and professor of English. “Having them in our classes has been very rewarding.”
