Classes and clinicals may not be the same for college students during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the passion to help others remains strong. Case in point: Jamie Hagerty, a junior from Wheatfield, N.Y., with a double major in psychology and biology, is volunteering to transport patients and delivering specimens and supplies at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center a couple of days each week. The aspiring psychiatrist says that she wanted to do her part as an established volunteer at NFMMC to support the hospital’s functioning during a stressful time.

”I know that many of the hospital’s volunteers are in the at-risk population during this pandemic, so I thought it was important for me to step up and fill in so that the healthcare workers don’t have too much extra work and patient care can remain optimal,” she said.
