Members of NU's men's basketball team with Central Amherst Little League Challenger Division baseball players.

The NU men's basketball team volunteered on July 17 with Central Amherst Little League's Challenger Division to assist baseball players with disabilities. The week before, the Purple Eagles had completed disability awareness training with Dave Whalen, project director, Disability Awareness Training and NU’s ADA coordinator, who runs the league.

Head coach Greg Paulus, assistant coaches Kevin Devitt and Antone Gray, and basketball operations director Austin Kelley accompanied the team. Members helped the 85 players, who range in age from 4 to 54, in batting, running bases, and defense, as needed.

Challenger baseball coach Dan Curry noted that the team was “the best volunteers we have ever had, great guys.”

The Challenger Division is Little League's adaptive baseball program for kids and adults with physical and developmental challenges. The Central Amherst league began in 1991.
