Niagara University senior Amber Thiel is this year’s recipient of the Jane M. Klausman Woman in Business Scholarship from the Zonta Club of Niagara Falls, N.Y.
Thiel was presented with the honor, which includes a $500 stipend, during the Zonta Club’s annual educational awards dinner on Oct. 11. A Machias, N.Y., resident, Thiel is studying marketing (with a concentration in food, beverage and consumer packaged goods marketing) at NU.
Making Thiel “the clear choice for the award,” according to a Zonta Club announcement, was her outstanding academic achievement; leadership roles on campus in various civic and service oriented organizations; and hands-on community volunteer service, both locally and nationally.
In April, Thiel was named one of only 273 Newman Civic Fellows in the United States by Campus Compact for demonstrating outstanding leadership and civic engagement. She was nominated for that honor by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of Niagara University.
Zonta International is a leading global organization of professionals that empower women worldwide through service and advocacy. Applications for its 2018 Jane M. Klausman Woman in Business Scholarship will be available online at www.zonta.org or on the local club’s website in February 2018. The application deadline for this award is May 31, 2018.
