Phoebe Wright, '15, played the title role in NU Theatre's production of 'Cyrana,' which was chosen as the Best Play of 2015 by by BroadwayWorld Buffalo. The show's director, faculty member Doug Zschiegner, was selected as the Best Director in a Play.

Niagara University Theatre’s world-premiere production of Cyrana topped several local professional productions to be chosen as the Best Play of 2015 by BroadwayWorld Buffalo.

Cyrana, which was on stage at Niagara in March 2015, was adapted from Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac by Doug Zschiegner, associate director of NU Theatre. Zschiegner was selected as the Best Director in a Play by BroadwayWorld Buffalo for his outstanding work.

In addition, NU theatre student Marina Laurendi won Best Actress (Musical) for playing the title role in American Repertory Theater of WNY’s production of Carrie: The Musical.

Diane DiBerarndo Blenk, ’89, was named Best Actress (Play) for her role as Germain in Picasso at the Lapin Agile at American Repertory Theater of WNY.

“This type of recognition is a testament to the high quality of theatrical work we’re producing at Niagara University,” said Steve Braddock, NU Theatre director. “It’s evident that the students who graduate from Niagara enjoy very successful careers onstage and behind the scenes.”
