The Rev. Marvin Alonso Navas, C.M., has been elected to the Niagara University Board of Trustees. The appointment was announced by the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of the university.

The El Salvador native was ordained a Vincentian priest in 2010 and has been a member of the university’s board of advisors since 2018. He is currently serving his second term as the superior at the Vincentian House in Southampton, N.Y., and is director to the Hispanic Apostolate of South Fork. He previously served the Spanish-speaking community in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as part of its Hispanic evangelization team.

Fr. Navas holds a master’s degree in theology and a master of divinity degree from the Seminary of the Immaculate Conception, where he was awarded the James Newcomb Memorial Award in commendation of his achievements in Scripture study and for successfully integrating the values derived from his course work into his life. He also holds a master of arts degree in pastoral care and an advanced certificate of spiritual direction from the Graduate School of Religion and Religious Studies at Fordham University.

“As we continue to cultivate a diverse and international campus environment, the experience Fr. Navas brings to our Board of Trustees will be invaluable,” said Father Maher. “His insight will guide us as we continue to provide our students with an inclusive, values-based learning environment and bring an international perspective to our board.”
