Robert Healy, director of veterans services at Niagara University, has been named vice president of the New York State Advisory Council on Military Education.
The advisory council is comprised of 129 representatives from approximately 60 institutions of higher education. Its goal is to promote and support quality education programs that are available to military-aliened students (veterans, active duty, guard and reserves) and Department of Defense civilians stationed in New York state.
Healy joined Niagara in 2010 following a 30-year career with the United States Air Force, including deployment in support of Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1991. He holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management from Houghton College and a master’s degree in police and security administration from the University of Phoenix.
Niagara University has a long history of honoring and supporting military students, veterans and their families. The Catholic and Vincentian university supports a U.S. Army ROTC program, and participates in the Department of Veterans Affairs GI Bill Yellow Ribbon Program, a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008.
Military alumni of Niagara include two Medal of Honor recipients, Gen. William Donovan and Lt. John Bobo, and a humanitarian nominated for sainthood, Father Nelson Baker.
