The Rev. James Maher, C.M., Niagara University president, was named as one of  the 100 professionals who are keeping New York state at the fast-paced forefront of higher education by City & State in its list of “Trailblazers in Higher Education.”

Father Maher was cited for his global outlook and leadership, including initiating partnerships with universities in India and the establishment of the university’s Afghan Scholars initiative for women denied education under the resurgent Taliban. The university’s new master’s degree program in family nurse practitioner, its science research lab in the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus, and its U.S. News & World Report ranking were also mentioned.
