Dr. Doug Tewksbury, professor in the Department of Communication and Media Studies, was invited to create a sound exhibition for the Art Gallery of Hamilton on Nov. 15, 2025, as part of the museum’s art + music + food Festival 2025 in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. The event brings together visual art, storytelling, film, live music, and creative workshops.
During five half-hour sessions, Dr. Tewksbury guided participants as they walked throughout the gallery and created a series of spontaneous, interactive sound and music works with the artworks.
“It was amazing moments of beauty and art and togetherness and creativity, and a reminder to visitors that anyone can be an artist,” he said. “The AGH is such an important creative resource for the region, and as one of the largest art museums in Ontario, they’re always doing some of the most exciting work of rethinking what an art gallery can be and the ways that visitors can participate and interact with the art. I’m always honored to be asked to collaborate with them.”
Dr. Tewksbury is an interdisciplinary media artist and composer who commonly works with sound, electronics, photo/video, film, and other media.
