More than 100 business students explored career pathways and opportunities in the food and consumer packaged goods industry during a recent visit by Tudor Cisloiu, Eastern US district director of team sales for Kellanova, a leading company in global snacking, international cereal and noodles, plant-based foods, and North American frozen breakfast.
Over his two-day visit, Cisloiu led discussions in three classes with students and faculty focusing on the considerable career options available in food and CPG, and how Niagara’s new and innovative interdisciplinary food industry management major can prepare students for jobs in that lucrative field.
Cisloiu also walked the students through a real-world example of a category line review, based on a recent pitch he made to a Western New York grocer. In his example, he showed how marketing, data analysis, and other facets of business are used by firms like Kellanova to increase their merchandise’s presence in stores.
“Tudor’s presentation on Kellanova’s product category review offered an engaging look into how the company strategically positioned its brands against competitors,” said Clara Barr, a senior marketing major. “He explained how departments like sales, R&D, and marketing collaborate to craft persuasive pitches that secure valuable in-store shelf space. By combining consumer insights, product innovation, and strong storytelling, Kellanova effectively differentiates itself in a crowded market, showcasing the power of collaboration and brand strategy in driving retail success.”
“The real-life scenario which Tudor presented with his case study showed the students how what they are learning can be used in real business situations and brought the academic theory to life for them,” said John Zimmerman, Niagara’s Robert B. Wegmann external director of food industry and supply chain. He added that Cisloiu emphasized that there are many different and varied lifetime career opportunities in the food industry during his presentations.
In addition to his class visits, Cisloiu also met with members of the college’s National Grocers Association case competition team to give industry insights and guidance as they prepare for their competition in Las Vegas in early February 2026. Cisloiu said he was impressed with the students and continues to be in contact with them, supporting them with his feedback.
Students were also able to sample some of the products offered by Kellanova, including Pop-Tarts, Cheez-Its, and Pringles. The company is also associated with other iconic brands including Eggo, Morning Star Farms, and Kellogg’s Club Crackers, NutriGrain, Rice Crispy Treats, and Special K.
The visit was coordinated by Dr. Krieg Tidemann, associate professor of economics, and Phil Catanese, director of centers and college outreach.
