Niagara University Graduate Honored as PCAOB Scholar

Logan Scanlon, ’25, is the recipient of a Public Company Accounting Oversight Board Scholarship for 2025-2026. Scanlon, who graduated with his BBA in accounting in May, is continuing his studies at Niagara University to complete his master of science in accounting and prepare for the CPA exam.

Dr. Ian Burt, chair of the accounting department, nominated Scanlon for the prestigious scholarship. Niagara is one of the AACSB-accredited institutions selected to nominate students for the merit-based award.

Scanlon chose Niagara because of its Distinguished Accounting Scholar Accelerated Degree 3+1 Accounting Program, which enables him to earn both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in four years. The Allison Park, Pa., native is completing his second summer internship in Deloitte’s international tax department in Pittsburgh and likely will continue working in that area as a CPA, he said.

“The scholarship will allow me to reach the 150 semester credit hours I need to become a CPA,” he said. “It also allows me to enter the workforce with almost no debt from student loans, something that not a lot of people can say. Education can be expensive, especially at the graduate level, so this will certainly help remove some of the financial burden off of my family and me.”

“We are very excited for Logan, as he is a fantastic student and classmate. Well deserved!” said Dr. Burt.

Since 2011, the PCAOB has administered a scholarship program for undergraduate and graduate accounting students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities. It seeks to benefit students who are likely to become auditors and to make a difference to students who might otherwise choose a different career path.
