Niagara University Observes Every Child Matters Day with Series of Events

On Monday, Sept. 30, Niagara University will observe Every Child Matters Day, or Orange Shirt Day, with a series of drop-in programs and installations across the campus. These activities and exhibits will provide opportunities for education and reflection about the history and lasting impact of residential schools on Indigenous and First Nations communities.

Niagara University Launches Speaker Series Focused on Literary Criticism and Social Justice

Emerging and established scholars will be featured as part of Niagara University’s new Literature and Social Justice Speaker Series, which launches this fall. The series is intended to facilitate discussions on how humanistic inquiry, specifically literary criticism, can contribute to social justice. The focus of the first two talks will be on the issue of disability.

National Leader in the Peace Movement to Speak at Niagara University

Jerry Elmer, a Vietnam-era draft resister and a national leader in the peace movement, will present “Nonviolent Civil Disobedience: Lessons from a Draft Resister,” on Tuesday, April 9, as part of the Niagara University Vincentian Center for Justice Social Justice Speaker Series. The talk, which is co-sponsored by NU's PeaceAction NY and the Peace and Justice Studies Association, will center on Elmer’s efforts to promote peace, justice, and protection of the environment. Religious Scholar to Lead Film Screening and Discussion on Race, Religion, and Justice at Niagara University

Niagara University’s Ostapenko Center for Race, Equity, & Mission is hosting a film screening and discussion on race, religion, and justice featuring Dr. Jamal-Dominque Hopkins, associate professor of Christian scriptures at Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary. Dr. Hopkins will show two short films and lead an iconographic analysis of the movies during the event, which takes place Feb. 29 at 5:30 p.m. in Dunleavy Hall, Room 127. It is free and open to the public.

Niagara University Students Learn About the Plight of Migrants During Vincentian Immersion Program

On a cold and windy Tuesday evening in January, five students from Niagara University served chicken, cauliflower, salad, bread, cookies, and muffins to migrants and refugees at Holy Family Refugee Center, located just a few steps from the Mexican border in El Paso, Texas.
