Two Niagara University Professors Lead Workshops at DECA State Career Conference

Dr. Shawn Daly, professor of marketing, and Brandi Guerinot, acting dean of the College of Hospitality, Sport, and Tourism Management, led workshops at the 65th annual DECA State Career Conference, March 5-7 in Rochester, N.Y. Thousands of New York state’s top high school business students attend the annual event to compete, network, and meet business professionals.

Dr. Daly’s presentation, “Much More Than ChatGPT: AI Images, Voices, Songs, & Video,” explored the ways AI is transforming the world. Workshop participants learned more about Suno AI, Natural Reader, DALL-E, and Stable Diffusion through hands-on activities like creating music, videos, and images.

“Speaking at the NYS DECA Conference was a great experience with super high energy kids who really want to explore business careers,” said Dr. Daly. “They were very engaged in learning more about AI generated images, songs, and videos. We had lots of fun together as they were literally dancing in the aisles to the AI generated music!”

Guerinot’s session, “Leading The Experience Economy,” provided the students with an overview of the entertainment, hospitality, and sports industries, a discussion of future career opportunities, and the best way to start immediately building their management skills.

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in high schools and colleges across New York for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
