Four students from the Niagara University Holzschuh College of Business recently represented
the university at the National Grocers Association Foundation Student Case Study Competition, held Feb. 2–3, 2026, in Las Vegas, NV, as part of The NGA Show. Over the course of several months, students researched current industry issues and developed strategic recommendations, ultimately presenting their solution to a panel of industry professionals during the national conference.
Representing Niagara University were:
- Clara Barr, senior marketing major
- Oksana Dannenberg, junior food marketing major
- Sameer Ijaz, senior global supply chain management major
- Brett Verrall, senior supply chain management major
The team was led by Stacey Woock, NUMA Club advisor and marketing lecturer.

The NGA Student Case Study Competition is an annual event that allows students to apply
classroom knowledge to practical business problems while gaining exposure to grocery retail
leadership. In addition to presenting their case, students had the opportunity to explore the trade
show floor, connect with industry executives, and participate in professional development
activities.
Niagara’s team began preparing during the fall semester, meeting twice a week and collaborating
with industry professionals as they refined their research and recommendations.
“The NGA Show was an incredible experience,” said Brett Verrall. “From exploring the trade
floor to building meaningful professional connections, it offered so many valuable opportunities.
Collaborating on the case competition also helped us strengthen relationships here on campus.
It’s an experience that will have a lasting impact on both my academic and professional
journey.”
Sameer Ijaz echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the professional growth the experience
provided. “Attending the NGA Conference in Las Vegas with Niagara University’s Holzschuh
College of Business gave direct exposure to real industry challenges and executive perspectives,”
he said. “The experience felt both intense and rewarding, as it pushed me to engage at a
professional level and reflect on future career possibilities.”
Ken Malecki, Food Industry Center of Excellence Advisory Board member, assisted the students
throughout their preparation and shared his thoughts, “The opportunity to assist this year’s NGA
presentation team was a great privilege,” Malecki said. “Seeing those young adults expressing their viewpoints in such a dynamic and professional manner was rewarding to me, knowing that
the future leaders of the food industry are preparing themselves for the challenges ahead.”
Special thanks to the Food Industry Center of Excellence Advisory Board for its continued
support of Niagara’s business students and their participation in this prestigious national
competition.
