Executive leaders from Niagara University and Niagara College gathered Sept. 14 at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, to sign a comprehensive Dual Admission and Articulation Agreement, significantly expanding degree-completion opportunities for students across the Niagara region and the U.S.-Canada border.
Building on years of collaboration, the new agreement establishes streamlined transfer pathways and joint advising networks to support students transitioning from college diploma programs to university degrees.
“This agreement is a wonderful example of what higher education institutions in the Niagara region can accomplish when we work together across the border,” said the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of Niagara University. “Our Vincentian mission calls us to put students at the center of everything we do. By eliminating barriers and creating clearer educational pathways, we are giving students on both sides of the border greater confidence about where their education can take them.”
Rather than leaving transfer students to navigate credit evaluations independently, the agreement establishes coordinated academic planning, early pathway recruitment, and automated administrative support. Niagara College will proactively identify and notify eligible students about dual-admission opportunities.
Unlike static articulation agreements, the partner institutions have committed to annual pathway reviews and real-time notifications regarding curriculum or accreditation adjustments. This process ensures the pathways remain dynamic, living partnerships that adapt to shifting academic and industry standards.
“Partnering with Niagara University allows us to provide our students with expanded degree-completion opportunities backed by strong institutional support from start to finish,” added Sean Kennedy, president of Niagara College. The articulation pathways encompass a wide range of fields, including social work, business management, early childhood education, sport management, culinary management, and criminal justice. Qualified students participating programs receive conditional dual admission and automatically qualify for a $500 (USD) Dual Admission Scholarship toward their undergraduate studies at Niagara University, renewable for two years.
