Dr. Douglas Tewksbury, associate professor of communication and media studies at Niagara University, spent three weeks last October as a member of a unique expeditionary residency program called the Arctic Circle, which brought 30 artists to the remote Svalbard region of Norway to create works that engage with issues of environmentalism and the climate crisis.

Dr. Douglas Tewksbury presented a keynote address and led a sound creation workshop at the Digital Field Methods Institute at the University of Texas – Austin in July.

Niagara Falls High School Students Learn College and Career Skills at Camp Hosted by Levesque Institute

Niagara University’s Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement hosted a college and career readiness camp for Niagara Falls High School students in the Early College/Smart Scholars program July 15-Aug. 1, 2024. The three-week program offered 14 rising juniors and sophomores the opportunity to take college-level courses while learning the skills necessary for their transition to higher education.

Niagara Falls High School students in special education programs and their peers in the Early College Smart Scholars program learned American Sign Language during a pair of camps hosted by the Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement in July.

For the past couple of years, Dr. Shawn Daly, director of student global experience and professor of marketing and international business at Niagara University, has traveled to Africa to assist farmers and entrepreneurs expand and manage their businesses as a volunteer with Farmer to Farmer, a USAID-funded program that provides technical assistance to farmers, farm groups, agribusinesses, and other agriculture sector institutions in developing and transitional countries to promote sustainable improvements in food security and agricultural processing, production, and marketing.
