Niagara University Awarded $100,000 U.S. National Science Foundation Award

Niagara University professors Dr. Maritza Branker, associate professor of mathematics, and Dr. Caitlin Riegel, assistant professor of education, have been awarded a $100,000 grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation’s Robert Noyce Scholarship Program to expand STEM education pathways for secondary teachers in high-need school districts.

For seven days in March, Dr. Joseph Little, associate professor of English, and his wife, Samantha, led a group of six Niagara University students on a trip to the West Coast designed to immerse them in the natural beauty and rich cultural contexts of California's southern and central coasts.

Dr. Shawn Daly, Niagara University professor of marketing and international business and director of student global experience in the Holzchuh College of Business Administration, was a featured presenter at eLearning Africa, the 17th International Conference & Exhibition on Digital Education, Training & Skills Development, May 29-31, 2024, in Rwanda. Co-hosted by the Ministry of Education of Rwanda and the Rwanda Convention Bureau, this flagship event brought together more than 1,200 international participants from across the public and private sectors.

Dr. Dennis Garland Honored with Community Partner Award by Developmental Disabilities Alliance of WNY

Dr. Dennis Garland, associate professor of education at Niagara University, received the Community Partner Award at the Developmental Disabilities Alliance of WNY’s 36th Annual Development Disabilities Awareness Day conference on May 21, 2024. The award recognizes an individual or group working in the community that has gone the “extra mile” to help enrich the lives of people with developmental disabilities.

Holzschuh Business Celebrates Faculty Excellence

“Golden Harvest,” an oratorio written to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the settlement of Ukrainians in Canada by Dr. Talia Zajac (libretto), with composer Larysa Kuzmenko, was performed on May 19 by the Victoria Choral Society and musicians from the Victoria Symphony in British Columbia, Canada.

Dr. Derron Hilts Awarded Grant to Explore Student-to-School Counselor Ratios on Student Outcomes

Dr. Derron Hilts, assistant professor and school counseling program coordinator at Niagara University, along with his colleague, Dr. Yanhong Liu, associate professor at Syracuse University, received a $5,000 grant from the New York State School Counselor Association to examine the relationship between the COVID-19 pandemic and student-to-school counselor ratios on student outcomes.
