Dr. Yonghong Tong Discusses Computer Science Education During JavaOne Annual Conference

Dr. Yonghong Tong, associate professor in the Department of Computer and Information Sciences at Niagara University, was invited by the College Board’s AP computer science program and Oracle to participate in a roundtable discussion at the Java Educator Summit, held during the JavaOne 2025 annual conference, March 17-20, 2025.

The discussion emphasized the importance of computer science education and its evolving role in shaping the future, Dr. Tong said, adding that he connected with experts and colleagues from higher education, K–12 education, and industry during the roundtable.

“During the events, I had the opportunity to share insights about computer science education at Niagara University and also learned about emerging trends in Java education, particularly the impact of artificial intelligence on its future, from the experts and developers around the world,” he said. “These insights will help guide future curriculum innovations in my teaching modern Java with integration of AI at Niagara University.”

JavaOne was created by developers for developers in 1996. It brings developers from around the world to share and learn more about the Java programming language and platform through world-class content including keynotes, expert-led learning sessions, and access to the Java community.
