The Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., Niagara University’s president, welcomed more than 350 Catholic high school students to the university on July 20, kicking off a week of service and faith sponsored by Catholic Heart Work Camp, a national organization that offers short-term mission trips for Catholic youth groups.
Throughout the week, the campers performed acts of community service on the Tuscarora Indian reservation and with organizations in Niagara Falls. Projects included home improvement, cleaning and organizing, yard work, working with children, serving at soup kitchens and in park districts, and painting.
The students also learned more about Niagara and toured the campus with the admissions office and celebrated Mass each day in the dining commons before they headed out to their work sites.
This is the second year that Catholic Heart has hosted a camp at Niagara University.
