Theatre Professor Receives Award from BroadwayWorld for Best Direction of a Musical

Terri Filips Vaughan, professor and chair of theatre and fine arts at Niagara University, received a 2025 BroadwayWorld Regional Award for “Best Direction of a Musical.” Filips Vaughan was honored for her work on “Into the Woods” with O’Connell and Company. The production was also named “Best Musical.”

BroadwayWorld is the largest theatre site on the internet, covering Broadway, the West End and beyond to 100 U.S. cities, 45 countries, and in 12 languages worldwide. Its 2025 Regional Awards honored productions, touring shows, and more which had their first performance between Oct. 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2025. 

Filips Vaughan, who also serves as NU’s resident choreographer and coordinates its dance program, has choreographed over 40 musicals and 19 concert works at the university during the last 20 years. She holds an MFA in dance and related arts: drama from Texas Woman’s University, and a B.A. in dance with a minor in history from Hope College.
