Wonder Fest Concludes With Immersive Neon Party and Screening of “The Substance”

Wonder Fest closed out its three-week run on Thursday, Nov. 20, with a screening of “The Substance,” marking a fitting finale to this year’s wild, twisted, freaky cinema theme. The concluding night drew students from across campus for an evening that blended film, creativity, and interactive experiences.

The finale featured a neon glow party that transformed Dunleavy Hall into a vibrant, blacklight-lit space. Students enjoyed glowing mocktails, DIY UV art stations, and free pizza generously provided by Say Cheese! The event also included a playful body-horror-inspired ice cream station, which leaned into the film’s themes with lighthearted toppings.

With three screenings—”Scott Pilgrim vs. the World,” “Fight Club,” and “The Substance”—the inaugural Wonder Fest delivered a blend of cinema celebration, hands-on activities, student-led programming, and campus collaboration.

“Cinemagoing continues to face challenges which is why keeping film culture active on campus matters,” said Dr. Joseph Sirianni, the course instructor and film festival director. “Wonder Fest gave students a reason to connect with cinema in a way that brought a revitalized energy to our campus.”

The entire festival was made possible by 11 students in CMS 360: Film Festivals, who planned, promoted, and executed every element of the event. Their dedicated work ensured the success of each screening and its accompanying features and activities.
