For the sixth consecutive year, Niagara University has been named to Phi Theta Kappa’s 2026 Transfer Honor Roll, recognizing the university’s commitment to creating an outstanding transfer student experience. Only 275 colleges and universities nationwide received the distinction.
Phi Theta Kappa is the premier international honor society for students attending associate degree-granting institutions. Membership is by invitation for students who have earned at least a 3.5 GPA and completed a minimum of 12 credit hours. The organization provides access to millions of dollars in transfer scholarships, leadership development opportunities and career resources.
“Welcoming PTK transfer students to Niagara University is almost a guarantee that they’ll be high achievers who add tremendous value to our campus community,” said Emily Buell, assistant director of admissions. “Transfer students are truly a huge part of our university.”
For former transfer student David Steele, Niagara University stood out for several reasons.
“I was drawn to Niagara not just for the generous transfer scholarships, but also for the natural beauty of the campus,” Steele said. “Waking up every morning to a view of the Niagara Gorge has been a pretty incredible change of scenery after growing up in the Midwest.”
Steele said the university’s transfer admissions team made his decision easy and the transition seamless.
“The folks out here have made me feel so welcome, and I’ve already made some great new friends through my involvement in the Transfer Student Association and other student organizations,” he said. “Best of all, every professor I’ve had in my first semester has been fantastic. They have so much incredible experience in their fields, and they all go out of their way to make themselves available for anyone who needs extra help.”
Being named to the Transfer Honor Roll recognizes Niagara University as one of the nation’s top institutions for supporting transfer students. The university offers preliminary credit reviews, allowing prospective students to understand how their credits will transfer before they are admitted.
“Our transfer team goes the extra mile throughout the entire process,” said Mark Wojnowski, director of graduate, transfer and Canadian admissions. “We help transfer students get a complete picture of what their education will look like, what life at Niagara is all about and provide the personalized attention they need every step of the way.”
Beyond the admissions process, transfer students can find community through the Transfer Student Association, which offers opportunities to connect with fellow students, get involved on campus and make the transition to Niagara easier.
Looking back on his experience, Steele is confident he made the right choice.
