Dr. Rolanda L. Ward, endowed faculty director of Niagara University’s Rose Bente Lee Ostapenko Center and chair of the social work department, co-authored a chapter in the text, “Contemporary Issues in Human Services: Special Topics for Clinical Practice, Public Health, and Social Justice.”
The chapter, “Death Customs: Cross-Cultural Issues of Grief and Bereavement,” examines how grief is a cultural phenomenon that requires culturally informed engagement and interventions to safely care for community members who are experiencing this particular life transition.
Her co-authors were Dr. Isiah Marshall Jr., professor and dean at The Ethelyn R. Strong School of Social Work, at Norfolk State University; Pedro M. Hernandez, associate professor in the School of Social Work at Jackson State University; and Patrice R. Jenkins, assistant professor in the School of Social Work at Jackson State University.
