Eight Niagara University students presented at the Tri Beta District Convention hosted by the
Theta Eta Chapter and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on April 18, 2026. These students work
under the guidance of professors Cassandra Marnocha, Coleen Edwards, and William Edwards.
Their presentations covered a wide range of topics including: characterizing microbial motility,
physiology of Synechococcus isolates from Fayetteville Green Lake, Acidithiobacillus metal
mobilization, and the analysis of Daphnia galeata diet using 16S and 18S rRNA gene
sequencing.
Beta Beta Beta (Tri Beta) is a national honor society in the biological sciences
dedicated to improving the understanding and appreciation of biological study and extending
boundaries of human knowledge through scientific research. Tri Beta holds annual conventions
dedicated to showcasing undergraduate student research.
